These provocatively herbal bottlings grow more appealing with each sip. This edition begins with singed sagebrush, wild raspberry, green peppercorn and wave-washed seashore on the nose. The palate recalls a frosty walk through a pine forest, full of bay leaf and menthol elements that elevate the crunchy cranberry, mulberry and peppery flavors.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Memorious has a bit of everything a Pinot Noir lover could want: poise, focus, vibrancy and subtle structural power. The nose straddles red and black berries with a flashy but measured intensity, leading to a lacy palate that combines electric energy with seductive, subtle richness. The finish is ethereal and long, framed with weightless tannins and recalling the energy found throughout.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Memorious is deep, fleshy and super-expressive, as it always is. Dark red cherry/plum fruit, spice, new leather and dried herbs are all beautifully laced together. Pliant and open, the 2022 has a ton to offer. Memorious offers a combination of the elements that make Domaine de la Côte a special site, namely a mix of energy from the vineyard's west-facing aspect and textural resonance from the presence clay in the soils.

Winemaker Notes

As ever a welcoming and engaging wine from the moment the cork is drawn, gregarious Memorious throws off a homey, inviting scent of warm, ripe berries, tea, tobacco, and cedar. This Memorious is texturally more tightly wound than some of its predecessors, awash in youthful energy that will settle down over its first year or two in bottle. As it finds its form, though, you will experience a delicious and generous wine whose concentration and force are deceptively subtle. 

Vineyard Notes

Perched above the Santa Ynez River, Memorious is immediately downslope from Bloom’s Field. The vineyard bends gently to the southwest, opening its face to the Pacific Ocean and its winds. It rests upon a bedrock of Monterey Shale covered by alluvial deposits; its soils are the heaviest of the Domaine— deep brown in color, composed primarily of clay.

Memorious is host to—and consequently, named for—our one acre of Pinot Noir seedlings, planted in 2007. With these seedlings, which are in effect the “memories” of Pinot Noir, we have set out to identify and, over many years to come, cultivate our own genetic selection of one of the world’s greatest grape varieties.
