About the Wine

In 1395 Philippe le Hardi forbade the cultivation of the Gamay and favoured that of the Pinot Noir to improve the quality of the wines. Red, white and rosé wines are produced as AOC Bourgogne. The regional appellation extends over more than 2,500 hectares from the department of the Yonne to the Rhône region and running through the Côte-d'Or.

This wine is a blend of different plots of Côtes de Nuits. There are some Villages appellations in this Bourgogne Pinot Noir. That's where this wine finds its high quality.

About the Winery 

Frédéric is a fifth-generation winemaker from Morey-Saint-Denis, and Burgundy is the family’s lifeblood. Learning the craft first from his father, Michel Magnien (of Domaine Michel Magnien), Fred also traveled to California and Australia to hone his talents before returning home and starting his own négociant domaine in his native village.

There’s no question that Magnien knows every nook and cranny of Burgundy by heart. As a child, he used these vineyards as his off-road bicycle course, riding through premier and grand cru plots.  As a winemaker, Magnien still rides his bike through the fields to greet growers at first light; his are long-lasting partnerships based on trust and respect.

He differentiates himself from other négociants in that he works closely with partner growers throughout the growing season. His own teams tend these mostly older-vine vineyards according to organic and biodynamic methods and harvest the grapes, ensuring quality from field to bottle. Wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered and according to the lunar calendar, with low added sulfites.
