About the Winery
What has always best described Elena Walch's avant-garde spirit is the refined combination of sustainable manual labor and meticulous vineyard selection, with the aim of setting new standards for the future. For decades, Elena Walch has been hailed as the "Grande Dame" of the Alto Adige and Italian wine scene: her family-run estate, now managed by her two daughters Julia and Karoline, ranks among the elite of Italian wine producers, enjoying international renown.
Her story is a compelling one: born and raised in Milan, she completed her architecture studies in Venice and then moved to Bolzano to practice architecture. Meeting her husband, the heir to a long-standing Alto Adige winemaking family, radically changed the course of her life: moving to Tramin brought her into contact with the rural world for the first time. This new world immediately captivated her: the harmony between nature, human labor, authenticity, and taste ignited a lifelong passion. Open-minded and forward-thinking, she was able to identify, with great awareness, even those areas requiring improvement. A true pioneer, Elena Walch thus laid the foundations of modern winemaking culture in Alto Adige, simultaneously positioning herself at the pinnacle of Italian production.
