94pts Wine Enthusiast
Henri Bourgeois 2022 d’Antan (Sancerre). A dusting of vanilla baking spice opens on the flinty nose along with apple pie and green pear. Acidity and fruit dance with each other on the palate with summer-warmed orchard fruit taking the lead in the last half of the taste.
94pts Wilfred Wong of Wine
The Domaine Henri Bourgeois produces some of Sancerre's top cuvées. The 2022 d'Antan delivers aromas and flavors of tart citrus, aromatic herbs, rustic spices, and dried earth. Enjoy it with pan-fried Petrale with lemon and herb butter.
93pts James Suckling
A well-rounded, precise, succulent and minerally white with notes of stone fruit, white flowers, stones and gunpowder. Medium-bodied with bright acidity. Lively and fine-tuned with a viivd core of crunchy fruit and a mineral dominance toward the long finish.
92pts Wine Spectator
The bright, lemony freshness in this excellent, delicious version is filled out the round and ripe notes of orchard fruit, jicama and ginger. There's some good tension on the broad palate thanks to bracing acidity and finely crushed mineral details.
Tasting Notes
This wine is full of aromas such as lime, verbena but also delicate mineral nuances (flint). In mouth, fresh touch of grapefruits, almonds, hawthorn and light touch of coconuts. Its minerality gives it a great length. Concentrated, full and fine, equally excellent when young or up to 6 – 8 years old.
Winemaker's Notes
This 100% flinty white Sancerre has borrowed vanilla and meringue tones from oak barrels that have already held several vintages, and smokiness and a lively, disarming attack from the stone. The palate is full-bodied, intense and lively, yet still retains the freshness and vivacity expected of a flint wine. "d'Antan" is a wine not to be forgotten.
