95pts James Suckling
Vivid dark ruby color, with aromas of blueberry jelly, earth, black truffles, toasted pepper and chocolate. Velvety on the palate, with juicy acidity, a full body and very good fruit concentration. Great complexity and polish in the finish.
93pts Wine Advocate
In the bottle with the black label, the Mastroberardino 2019 Taurasi Radici is a brambly and intense wine with dark fruit, resin and petroleum jelly. Those tertiary tones have taken hold for sure, but the mouthfeel is graciously not too heavy or thick. Texturally, it remains light on its feet, with hints of cumin, spice and dried berry fruit. This is an ample release of 75,000 bottles that to me has more depth and verticality compared to the two Naturalis Historia wines from 2018.
93pts Wine Spectator
There's a sense of poise to this well-integrated red, which marries rich cherry coulis and sweet tobacco flavors. Offers mineral, mocha and anise hints, plus a core of dense, fine-grained tannins. Plush and well-spiced on the lively, lingering finish. Best from 2027 through 2039.
Winemaker Notes
Deep ruby red. Full, complex, and intense, with notes of cherry, violet, wild berries, and a distinctive spicy aroma. This elegant wine has flavors of plum, black cherry, strawberry, and intense spices.
