 96pts Jeb Dunnuck

The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Mourre Des Perdrix comes from slightly more sandy soils around the estate and is 69% Grenache, 15% each Syrah and Mourvedre, and a splash of Cinsault. Ripe cherries, dried raspberries, spice box, Provençal herbs, and savory flower notes all define the bouquet, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This is always the most seamless and finesse-driven of Charbonniere’s releases, and while it will drink well on release, it has the capacity to evolve for 15-20 years.

95pts James Suckling

I love the enveloping nose of ripe red plum and Mediterranean herbs of this stunning Chateauneuf. Excellent concentration and stacks of fine tannins. The harmony and vitality on the full-bodied palate is remarkable. Very long, emphatically dry, and stony finish. A cuvee of 69% grenache, 15% syrah, 15% mourvedre and 1% cinsault.

95pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Mourre des Perdrix (roughly 70% Grenache and 15% each Mourvèdre and Syrah) offers up garrigue-laden, lavender-scented florals, plus oodles of purple raspberries. Full-bodied and silky, it finishes long and fresh. It looks like another excellent vintage here.

94pts Wine Spectator

A ripe, seductive version, showing weight as well as structure, with a generous stream of cherry coulis and black and red licorice meeting a layer of crushed iron that brings balance and form. The oak is well-integrated, with singed thyme details. Weighty but not heavy-handed.

Winery Notes

It was in 1912 that Eugene Maret bought Domaine de la Charbonniere as a gift for his wife who was a native of Chateauneuf and the daughter of a winemaker. Their son Fernand Maret inherited a part of the Domaine and enlarged it upon the birth of his son Michel.

Today Michel Maret had over 16 hectares of vineyards located in the high plateaux of Les Brusquieres and La Crau both covered with the famous cailloux roulets and at Mourre des Perdix, sandy soil dotted with larger stones.

The passion and know-how of the winemaker, handpicking of the fruit, and careful sorting at the winery enable Michel Maret to optimize all the promise of a great terrior.

The vinification at the Domaine follows the classic style: no destemming, and three weeks fermentation in stainless steel vats, after which the wine is aged in large oak fourdes for 12-18 months.
