93pts James Suckling
Very pretty and finely formed with currant, cherry and raspberry character. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and fresh finish. Fine textured. Lovely second wine for d’Issan.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Blason d'Issan features cassis, plums and earth on the nose with an undercurrent of bay leaves and tobacco. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy with good concentration and length.
Vinous
The 2016 Blason d’Issan has a rich, generous bouquet of ample blackberry, tar and light violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, smooth tannin and plenty of tobacco-tinged black fruit that fans out nicely toward the sharp finish. A very capable second wine from d’Issan.
Tasting Notes
The wine is a medium ruby color with youthful purple hue on the edges. Complex and seductive nose of blackberry fruit with herbal nuances. Medium-bodied, it is elegant and round revealing a core of fresh fruit backed by firm integrated tannins. Overall it displays good weight and concentration with a solid finish.
The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin and fine delineation; it is very crisp and focused, a classic Margaux through and through with outstanding salinity and persistence towards the precise finish.
About the Wine
Blason d’Issan, our second wine, was introduced from 1995 onwards to enable selection amongst our vines growing in the Margaux appellation area. Fruit from our youngest vines is used to produce this wine, which respects the identity of its terroir, while offering a tasty round fruitiness, which can be enjoyed earlier. Blason d’Issan is also aged in barrels for 14 to 16 months, one third of which are new. Annual production is around 120,000 bottles.
Blend: 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
