93pts James Suckling

Love the nose to this wine, with spices and berries and currants. Full and very refined with super silky tannins and a long long finish. So refined. Second wine of Cos.

92pts Wine Enthusiast

This big, rich, chocolaty wine is powerfully built with considerable extract. The wine is huge and solid, its tannins extreme and dense. At the same time, the juicy blackberry fruit drives the wine into an opulent aftertaste.

90pts Wine Spectator

Bright loganberry and blackberry fruit pumps along, while hints of licorice root, singed apple wood and charcoal chime in on the finish. Pleasantly firm, open and accessible, this is engaging and lively but a bit shy on stuffing overall.

90pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Les Pagodes de Cos gives up a nose of baked blackberries, prunes and blackcurrant cordial with hints of powdered cinnamon, smoked meats and eucalyptus plus a touch of iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers just enough fruit to fill the structure with bold freshness and a firm, chewy texture, finishing on a stewed tea note. Rating: 90+

Vinous

(a blend of 62% cabernet sauvignon and 38% merlot; 3.5 pH; IPT 73; 14.1% alcohol Bright, full red. Perfumed aromas of fresh blackberry, violet and cedar. Dense, sweet and juicy, with bright acidity lifting the flavors of ripe red berries, exotic dried herbs and graphite. With its fine-grained texture, very sweet tannins and excellent length, this sexy midweight offers impeccable balance and lovely purity of fruit. Without question one of the best second wines of the vintage. In fact, I think it will turn out to be the best Pagodes ever.

Winemaker's Notes

2010 Pagodes de Cos needs not blush in the company of many grand vins. It is totally enchanting and worthy of the most discerning wine lover. Like the 2009, it is unquestionably an outstanding second wine. 2010 Pagodes de Cos has a truly marvellous texture. It is an opulent wine with fine, soft tannin. Fresh and long, it exudes tremendous elegance.

About the Wine

Pagodes de Cos will develop complex aromas that will vary according to the characteristics of each vintage and evolve with time. Proper service will allow these qualities to express themselves completely.

The youngest vintages—those produced after 2010—should be decanted at least one hour before tasting. Aeration will help bring the spirit and passion of each wine into focus, so its potential can be fully revealed.
We recommend opening vintages produced prior to 2010 about one hour before serving, without decantation, so their aromas may be released gently.

We recommend serving wines between 15°C and 16°C. As they continue to warm up in the glass, they will release their full palette of aromas and reveal their most subtle, delicate nuances.

Winery Notes

Château Cos d’Estournel, located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation of Bordeaux’s Médoc region, was founded in 1811 by Louis Gaspard d’Estournel. Known as the “Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe” for his fascination with the exotic and his bold export ventures, d’Estournel built the estate’s distinctive oriental-inspired château, which remains one of Bordeaux’s most recognizable landmarks. His dedication to quality and innovation helped establish Cos d’Estournel as one of the leading producers of the Left Bank, and in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification it was ranked a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru).

Today, the estate is owned by entrepreneur Michel Reybier, who acquired it in 2000 and has since modernized both the vineyards and the winemaking facilities while maintaining its traditional elegance. Cos d’Estournel is celebrated for its powerful yet refined style, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot for balance, and consistently ranks among the top wines of Bordeaux. Its second wine, Les Pagodes de Cos, and the white wine, Cos d’Estournel Blanc, further showcase the estate’s pursuit of precision and excellence.
