96pts James Suckling
A seductive, round and velvety red based on 85% grenache, mourvedre, bourboulenc, syrah, cinsault and others. The nose reveals notes of wild berries, currants, candied cherries, wild herbs and stones. It's full-bodied with finely grained tannins. It has a delicate touch to it, elegant, balanced and silky. Controlled power with bright fruit and a fresh, pure finish. Long and developing, with plenty of pepper and vibrancy. Try from 2027.
92pts Decanter
Sloe and elderberry with liquorice notes, quite a savoury expression. Soft, smooth, yielding, with ripe tannin and well-balanced acidity. Will drink well young and into the medium term, in a savoury, food-friendly style.
94pts Jeb Dunnuck
The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape from Bravey is complex and upfront, with spicy, peppery red fruit, loads of garrigue and incense nuances, medium body, a focused, elegant mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great finish. Drink this remarkably Provençal, complex, satisfying 2022 over the coming decade. The 2022 is a normal blend of 85% Grenache, 6% Mourvèdre, 4% Bourboulenc, 3% Syrah, and 2% Cinsault, from the La Bertaude, Cabrières, and Maucoil lieux-dits, that was raised all in concrete.
91pts Vinous
Licorice, ripe red fruits, dried herbs and a pinch of violets launch the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Compared to a barrel sample tasted earlier this year, the once grippy tannins have evolved toward more refinement. Balanced by bright acidity, the full-bodied 2022 should start showing at its prime with an additional four years of bottle-aging. That said, it cannot compete with the more complete 2020 version.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 85% Grenache Noir, 6% Mourvèdre, 3% Syrah, 4% Bourboulenc and 2% Cinsault, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine de Ferrand matured for 20 months in concrete tanks. It offers up an oxidative bouquet of dried plum, spices, herbs and chocolate. Medium-bodied, dense and concentrated, it's firm and dry on the finish.
About the Wine
All Philippe’s Chateauneuf parcels are at the north edge of the appellation. This Chateauneuf-du-Pape comes from half vines of 45 years old from the La Gardiale and Cabrieres vineyards, and the other half from vines planted in 1904, 1905 and 1910.
