93pts James Suckling
Flattering, with ripe, minty blackberries, black plums, tobacco, hazelnuts and a hint of mocha. A full-bodied, tightly wound red with powerful but creamy tannins that will need a year or two to soften more. Long, creamy finish. Drink after 2023.
93pts Wine Enthusiast
Dark garnet in color, this wine has aromas of blackberry, raspberry and chocolate covered espresso bean. It is smooth on the palate, with polished tannins and berry flavors joined by notes of milk chocolate, cocoa powder, anisette and violet that wend their way to a floral and fruit finish.
90pts Wine & Spirits
Dried flower scents of violets and rose petals rise off this wine’s meaty, dark tannins, which feel substantial but not aggressive. The tannins are mouth-drying, needing something to tame them and fill them out, like a fatty roast duck with berry compote.
Winemaker Notes
Clean and brilliant with an attractive black cherry color and purple undertones. Quite intense aromatics revealing ripe red berry and black fruits. Licorice notes, typical of the Tempranillo variety, also come through. Sweet, roasted coffee bean aromas follow with hints of vanilla and touches of spice. A fleshy, silky entry on the palate with perfectly integrated acidity and very pleasant, gentle tannins. Black fruit flavors in the finish with blackberry in particular. The oak is very nicely integrated, expressing notes of toast and vanilla, characteristic of a wine aged in American oak barrels. A medium to long finish.
Great with rice dishes, white and red meats, roast suckling lamb or suckling pig.
