Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2021 - 750ml
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2021 - 750ml
95pts Jasper Morris
A solid crimson depth of colour with a wealth of deep red berry fruit, freshened by a trace of white pepper. The fruit seems a little richer and riper than several in the range, judging by bouquet alone. There are some beautifully ripe cherry notes here. The fractional trace of herbaceousness will subsequently deliver a leafy aromatic which will be thrilling. On the palate the wine has a harmonious sweetness to the fruit which indicates an ideal choice of picking date. It is thrillingly persistent to add to the beautifully interwoven complexity. A very complete Echezeaux.
95pts Decanter
The 2021 Echézeaux is an extraordinary wine, with forward, bright raspberry fruit aromas and floral notes, marked at this stage with spice from the cask ageing; Bertrand de Villaine notes that most of the barrels are from François Frères, with contributions from La Grange and Berthomieu. The texture has great, silky finesse, although some slightly drying tannins still need to be integrated. Although the immense holding centered in the lieu-dit Poulaillères is 4.67 hectares, not all finds its way into the blend since the young vines are blended into the Vosne-Romanée premier cru Duvault-Blochet.
95pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Échézeaux Grand Cru has turned out beautifully in bottle, bursting with aromas of wild strawberries, spruce, baking spices and orange zest, followed by a full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping palate that's taken on appreciable mid-palate fat and dimension since I tasted it from barrel last year. Supple and sappy, its concentrated but weightless core of fruit largely conceals its fine but sinewy structuring tannins.
92pts Vinous
The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru is bright and nervy, but also very nicely lifted, with pretty aromatics that make a strong opening statement. Crushed flowers, sage, mint, red-toned fruit, orange peel and sweet pipe tobacco are all delineated. There is some angularity to the contours. Bottle age will help, but I expect the 2021 will always be a rather tense Echézeaux. Aeration works quite well here.
