Winemaker Notes

From 2.9 hectares, the parcels for this wine come from Magny and Sous la Velle around the village of Meursault and Champs Perriers in Puligny-Montrachet. The youngest vines were planted in 1995 and the oldest in 1957. The soil is limestone/clay. The climate is warm but not not excessively so and rainfall avegaes about 700mm per year. The Bouzerau family practise organic viticulture with certification and there are some biodynamic practices. Any replanting is done exclusively by massal selection. Harvesting is done by hand.

Clay-limestone. Elevage for one year in oak (15% new), then two months in tank.

The Bouzereau family is part of the fabric of Meursault, making wine in the village for seven generations. While today there are five domaines bearing the Bouzereau name, Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils is acknowledged as not only the best of them but also one of the top producers in the appellation. Their years of experience and connections have endowed them with some of the top plots in the top crus – as a result they craft some of the best, most balanced wines in Meursault.

Sixth generation vigneron Michel was able to expand the family vineyards he inherited, cementing the Bouzereau name as an authoritative leader in the region. Michel’s son Jean-Baptiste joined the family estate twenty years after his father took over and has been running the domaine since 1999. He has carried on the family name while continuing to make improvements, building a new winery in 2009 in central Meursault.

Burghound

Very pretty aromas are comprised by notes of freshly cut citrus, white peach and a background hint of petrol character. The super-sleek, delicious and attractively vibrant middleweight flavors conclude in an agreeably dry and sneaky long finish. This is very good for its level and worth checking out plus it should repay a few years of keeping.

Decanter

There are delightful aromas of lemon peel and green apple on the initial attack of his entry-level Bourgogne. The texture is fresh and lively but not lacking in weight. Although it is a 'simple' Bourgogne Chardonnay, it conveys the origin of most of the fruit: 60% from the Meursault lieux-dits Sous La Velle, Les Magny and Les Belles Côtes and the balance from Champ Perrier in Puligny. The wine is gently pressed before fermenting and ageing in cask (15% new) for one year.
