The youngest of the reds here, the 2020 Parada de Atauta was selected from 90+-year-old vines on sandy soils from a rainier and cooler year that they compare with 2016. The grapes fermented destemmed in concrete and stainless steel and underwent malolactic in concrete followed by 13 months in French oak barrels, 20% of them new, plus four more months in concrete before being bottled. It's slightly lighter and less ripe than the 2019 (which I also tasted on this occasion), with 14.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.6 denoting freshness and balance. It has a creamy nose that combines red berries with darker ones and some sweet spices and smoke in a subtle and harmonious way. The tannins are very fine and the mouthfeel quite silky. 52,823 bottles and 900 magnums produced. It was bottled in August 2022.

Notes of dark cherries, plums, chocolate, hints of sandalwood and cloves. Full and chewy with tight-grained tannins and succulent fruit underneath. Linear and focused with a chalky minerality at the end. Try after 2024.

The 2020 Parada de Atauta is a Tempranillo from the Atauta Valley in Soria, Ribera del Duero. Aged for 12 months in 20% new French oak barrels, it's purple in hue. The nose features notes of plum and cherry layered over caramel hints. Rich and dry with robust tannins and a reasonably taut palate, the finish is fruity and long-lasting.

A fresh red, offering crushed blackberry fruit and light, taut tannins, with accents of dried fig, eucalyptus and graphite. Crisp finish. Drink now. 4,836 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.

Tasting Notes

Vivid cherry color with violet highlights. Intense aroma of fresh red fruit with notes of violets, thyme, and rosemary.

In the mouth it stands out for its freshness and silkiness and its taste of ripe red and black fruit wrapped in incredibly silky tannins with a fresh, mineral finish. Fresh, youthful, fleshy on the palate, with a good concentration of ripe red and black fruit, all accompanied by soft tannins.

About the Wine

Parada de Atauta is born from the sandy soils of the Valley. It is the most subtle and elegant version of the Tinto Fino.

The wine is made from a selection of very old vineyards (80yrs old), ensuring better ripening and greater fruit intensity. Of notable high quality, these will be wines of great balance, with plenty of fruit and a palate that is equally opulent and fresh.

About the Winery

At an altitude of 1,000 meters in the Soria town of Atauta, there is a unique valley that constitutes an authentic enological and ethnographic jewel. Over the years and adding an excellent human factor to the unique conditions of the terroir, Dominio de Atauta's wines have managed to carve out a niche for themselves among some of the most renowned wines from such an outstanding Designation of Origin as Ribera del Duero.
