92pts Vinous
The 2021 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) is fabulous. Deep and layered, with remarkable density, the 2021 is seriously impressive at this level, or any level, for that matter. Lemon confit, chamomile, spice and apricot are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite appellation-level Chardonnay from Failla.
Tasting Notes
Aromatically the Chardonnay has more citrus-driven notes, with a sprinkling of yellow apples and pineapples. On the palate, the wine has refreshing minerality, a touch of well-integrated oakiness, and crunchy pears.
Winemaker Notes
This 100% Chardonnay is a blend of the following vineyards: Olivet, Keefer Ranch, and Flood Gate. The fruit is whole-cluster-pressed where native yeasts are used for primary fermentation, and the wine naturally completes malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged in a combination of 10% concrete egg, 20% stainless steel and 10% new French oak. The wine rest sur lie for approximately 9 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
