96pts James Suckling
The aromas are fantastic, with raspberries, boysenberries and other fruit. Some undertones of bark and mushrooms. Medium- to full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are polished and completely integrated on the palate. Notes of pine needles and light brewed coffee. Complex and complete. Aged in three-year-old barrels. Traditional in the best sense. Classic nature. A blend of tannat with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petite verdot and marselan.
Tasting Notes
Vibrant purple with violet tones. High concentration evident in the very elegant and persistent legs. A wide range of complex aromas, with notes of dried figs, ripe red fruits, coffee, and spices. Rounded acidity and tannins, mature forest fruits, and a hint of ink.
It is recommended to decant 30 minutes before serving. This wine evolves very well with time.
About the Wine
In 1992, Preludio was born as Uruguay’s first great age-worthy wine. A high-end blend crafted through a rigorous selection of the finest barrels, it represents the pinnacle of traditional winemaking. The most concentrated grape clusters are handpicked from low-yielding plots, limited to around 40 hectoliters per hectare.
Following classic winemaking methods, Preludio is bottled unfiltered into dark glass bottles sealed with premium natural corks, then returned to the original stone cellar—built by the Jesuits in 1745—for several more months of bottle aging on individual racks.
Winery Notes
Familia Deicas is a family-owned winery founded in 1979 by Fernando Deicas in the coastal region of Canelones, near Montevideo. The Deicas family entered the wine industry with a vision of producing high-quality wines that could elevate Uruguay’s reputation on the global stage. Starting with modest vineyards and a focus on careful vineyard management, the winery gradually expanded its holdings and modernized its facilities while remaining firmly family run. Today the second generation, including winemaker Santiago Deicas, continues to lead the estate, combining innovation with respect for tradition. Familia Deicas has become especially known for championing Uruguay’s signature grape, Tannat, crafting structured yet elegant wines that highlight the influence of the nearby Atlantic climate and the diverse soils of the region, helping establish Uruguay as a serious wine-producing country.
