95pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Fattoria dei Barbi 2015 Brunello Vigna del Fiore unfolds slowly to reveal a tight core of wild berry aromas, balsam herb and light touches of smoke and spice. This is a medium-weight expression that offers the carefully measured acidity and structured to ensure a healthy aging future ahead. Speaking of aging, Brunello is released five years after harvest and tertiary notes defined by cellar age are always an important characteristics of the wine. I notice that this Brunello has embraced its age with particular grace and elegance. You could want age it longer or you could also enjoy this bottle in the near and medium term. Some 6,600 bottles were released in January 2020. Drinking Date 2021 – 2040
91pts Vinous
Good medium red-ruby. Deep aromas of blackberry, raspberry and tea leaf. Juicy and intense, but extremely tight; quite closed currently, with aeration bringing up only very faint red and dark berry and flinty herb flavors that remain completely compressed by the strong tannic cloak. Finishes with mouthcoating astringency that had me scrambling for bread. Completely charmless right now, this very young, taut wine needs many years of patience; my hope is the tannins resolve before the fruit disappears. Drinking Window 2026 – 2035
Winery Notes
The Vigna del Fiore is an unique vineyard: its 14 acres (5.7 hectares) are situated in an area where the vine is cultivated by our family since the XVI century. It is one of the southernmost and oldest vineyard in the whole area of the Brunello di Montalcino. The particular exposition and the composition of the soil give to this Brunello special qualities, with a very elegant bouquet and an harmonic and complex taste.
The Brunello Vigna del Fiore has been produced since 1981; for its harmony and charm it can be drunk and appreciated from the earlier years in bottle, despite being a wine with an excellent capacity of ageing.
