95pts Jeb Dunnuck
Pouring a nearly opaque red hue, the medium to full-bodied 2022 Magari offers beautiful aromas of red apple, dark chocolate, and crushed flowers. Plush and refined on the palate, with a velvety texture and nuanced mineral underpinnings, it’s going to be a very graceful wine from this vintage. It won't be the most powerful red, but it offers a lot of finesse.
95pts James Suckling
Redcurrant, cherry and olive-leaf aromas follow through to a medium body with very fine, caressing tannins and a long, juicy finish. Lightly crunchy and chewy. Extremely well crafted and delicious already, but better in a couple of years. Drink or hold.
93pts Decanter
Floral and lifted red fruit aromas are accompanied by plenty of black and white pepper and a hint of volatile acidity, which lead to a mouthful of silky tannins, fresh and dried cherries, and rich dark fruits. The finish is woody – a bit drying and chocolatey – and it needs more time for the oak to integrate.
About the Winery
The winery was established in 1996 and today extends over an area of approximately 80 hectares of vineyards in Bolgheri’s DOC appellation. Although Angelo, who has just recently turned 80, still plays an active role, the Gaja family’s fifth generation is increasingly involved in all winery operations. Together with Gaia, Rossana and Giovanni, we are going to discover Ca’Marcanda.
