97pts Decanter - Best In Show Decanter World Wine Awards 2025
***Best In Show Trophy at Decanter World Wine Awards 2025*** We’re thrilled to see a wine from Alexander Valley join our Best in Show selection. This distinctive zone clearly offers Cabernet of significantly different style to Napa: amply fleshed, yes, but with a savoury, mountain wildness to that flesh, and with a different acid emphasis. The blend here, with its seasoning of Petite Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, surely also plays a role in lending this wine its intriguing complexities. It’s black-red in colour, with open, affably fruity aromas lent depth by a dry-forest warmth; on the palate the wine has both breadth and depth as well as a compelling inner sweetness. The plump tannins with that distinctive savoury nuance bring the wine resolution and balance.
Tasting Notes
Lightly-roasted coffee and chocolate quickly undress to reveal rich plum and brambly blackberry. The ripe fruit core remains lively through the gentle mid-palate and firmer finish, showing grace and balance. Subtle toasty oak add exotic and earthy complexity.
About the Wine
Alexander Valley lies in the northeast of Sonoma County where mountains shelter the vines from the Pacific Ocean’s cooling influence. This warm climate is ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon wines of intense flavor and silky tannins, and the excellent drainage of the rich, gravelly soils provides unique depth and character to the wines.
Blend: 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.5% Petite Sirah, 2.5% Petite Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc
