94pts International Wine Report

The structure and concentration are impressive, with layers of lush dark fruit accented by a touch of underlying acidity that brings a refreshing energy to each sip, lingering through the long finish. Altogether, this is an excellent value Cabernet that will be accessible early and should also have a nice evolution over the next decade.

93pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Sourced from 11 different sites in the Napa Valley, Lail’s 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint is a fine value, sometimes available locally (in Napa) at a discount to the quoted suggested retail price. Sophisticated aromas of crushed stone and dried herbs accent mixed red and black cherries on the nose, plus there’s an appealing, savory hint of dusty earth. Medium to full-bodied, the wine exhibits a silky feel and mouthwatering acids on the palate. Drink this easy-drinking vintage over the next decade or so.

92pts James Suckling

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint, Robin Lail’s entry-level Cabernet, is a total knockout. Racy and supple, with gorgeous fruit, the 2022 offers notable appeal. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and licorice build effortlessly. Soft, plush contours wrap it all together in style. The 2022 is pure pleasure.

92pts Jeb Dunnuck

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint is a brilliant value based on 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot that’s sourced from throughout the valley. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by classic Napa Cabernet ripe blackberry, blueberry, chocolate, and spicy, leafy herb-like nuances. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has a round, layered mouthfeel, and sweet tannins.

Winemaker Notes

The 2022 Blueprint Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet with purple edges, revealing vibrant aromas of black and Bing cherry and boysenberry. Flavors follow in step, adding blue and red fruits with notes of cocoa, black olive and sage. It is richly-layered with wonderful freshness and bright energy. Finely-balanced, long and immediately drinkable, this is fully representative of the challenging but ultimately successful 2022 vintage.

Winery Notes

Robin Daniel Lail’s heritage began in 1879 with the founding of Inglenook Vineyards by her great -granduncle, the iconic Captain Gustave Niebaum. By the early 1890s, this brilliant man’s obsession for achieving the pinnacle of excellence earned Inglenook wines the status of being considered by many as the finest produced in the country.

The determination to achieve excellence was carried forward through the decades following Niebaum’s death in 1908, with a crescendo in the thirty years following the repeal of Prohibition under the meticulous, passionate stewardship of John Daniel, Jr., Robin’s father. The collection of Cabernets coming from his years of ownership is still celebrated today as some of the finest red wines on earth.

Although Inglenook was sold in 1964, the passion for winemaking did not fade. Robin inherited her father’s respect for tradition. After working as the personal assistant to her mentor, Robert Mondavi, for five years, she left in 1982 to co-found Dominus Estate with Christian Moueix. The following year she co-founded Merryvale Vineyards with Bill Harlan, serving as president for a decade, before finally launching on her eponymous venture, Lail Vineyards, with her two daughters in 1995. Today her family honors his legacy with their relentless pursuit to produce wines second to none.
