Man Family Free-Run Steen Chenin Blanc 2024 - 750ml
Tasting Notes
A crisp, expressive, light-bodied wine. Vibrant aromas of quince, pear & pineapple. On the palate, fresh stone fruit and apple flavours are backed by refreshing acidity, minerality and a full-bodied mouthfeel.
– Serve well chilled
– Pairs well with poultry, shellfish & vegetable dishes.
Winemaker Notes
A crisp and refreshing wine with an abundance of fruit on the palate, balanced with minerality and a rich mouthfeel.
Left on its lees for 3 months for a richer mouthfeel and longevity. 100% un-oaked to preserve the freshness of fruit.
Only the free-run juice was used for this wine, with no pressing of the skins. The juice was allowed to ferment over 20 days in stainless steel tanks. Fined and filtered before bottling.
About the Winery
It all started as a simple plan: to make a wine that we’d love to buy. We wanted quality wine that offered excellent value and great packaging. Not exactly an epiphany, perhaps, but enough to motivate us into action. Of course, first we had to come up with a name. To keep peace in the families, we took our wives’ initials (we each have one wife) — that is how we explained to Marie, Anette and Nicky that we were going to be ‘busy’ most weekends. ‘It’s for you!’ we told them. And mostly it’s true.
José Conde and brothers Tyrrel and Philip Myburgh started making wine together in 2001. They’re further supported by a group of dedicated grape growers from the Agter-Paarl region. From the first 300 cases made in a tractor shed, the operation has grown to producing over 250,000 cases per year and exporting to 25 countries.
MAN Family Wines are bold, fruity, modern-styled wines. Since the focus is on one wine growing area, it is also important that they express the uniqueness of the area. A good customer once said that the wines are “daily wines for wine geeks”, and that sums it up well. We source our Chenin Blanc from selected vineyards in the Agter-Paarl region. The vineyards are all unirrigated and bushvine (untrellised) vineyards that produce concentrated, flavourful grapes. Most of the vineyards are older than 25 years old. Our soils are mostly Malmesbury Shale, imparting minerality and fresh acidity to the wines.
