Marc Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "En Virondot" 2020- 750ml
92-94pts Vinous
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Virondot 1er Cru, which unlike the other Premier Crus was taken from barrel, has a lovely bouquet with hazelnut, orange rind, wet granite and just a touch of praline. The palate is very well balanced with an irresistible peachy entry that segues into a gorgeous quince-tinged finish. Often one of the Domaine best offerings, this Virondot is another to add in a succession of great wines from this climat.
93pts James Suckling
Quite some oak here, but also excellent citrusy freshness and a firm mineral core. This is tightly wound on the generous palate, and was definitely made for aging, needing a year or two in bottle to give its best. Long and slightly austere, stony finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.
92pts Burghound
Note: from a whopping 2.02 ha parcel, which effectively means that the Domaine owns 89% of the appellation; because the other owner does not declare their wine as En Virondot, Mollard jokingly calls her version as a "commercial" monopole A whiff of phenolic character is present on the pretty and even cooler nose of various white orchard fruit scents that are liberally laced with citrus nuances. The sleek, intense and markedly mineral-driven middle weight flavors terminate in a chiseled, youthfully austere and bitter lemon rind-inflected finale. I very much like the sense of underlying tension and this is lovely, not to mention capable of rewarding up to a decade of aging. *Burghound Outstanding!*
