94pts Wine Enthusiast - Editor's Choice
A heady nose opens with lucid layers of spices and herbs, olive brine, violets, fresh ground peppercorn, currants and blackberries. There's polished dark chocolate oak influence. The palate is chiseled, silky and slinky but with curves and shape, sculpted by fine, savory, pepper-flecked tannins. This is a complete and detailed wine now but has the potential to cellar several more years.
93pts James Suckling
This wine offers a rich and seductive nose of blackberries complemented by notes of cigar box, milk chocolate and subtle hints of pepper. Well defined with satiny tannins, it has a linear and precise structure that leads to a subtle, dark fruit-driven finish. Why wait? Drink now.
92pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Shiraz Cliff Edge is rocky and purple on the nose with crushed granite, blackberry, white pepper and raspberry compote. Not hugely complex, but it is hugely satisfying. This is a concentrated, cool-climate Shiraz. It's a great (super) value at around $30 AUD. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
91pts Vinous
This mid-weight 2021 Shiraz Cliff Edge is evocative with its layers of sage, white pepper and charcuterie mixed with red and black cherry fruits. It is complex yet also approachable, offering layers of black cherry and spicy flavor before tightening up on the finish. The 2021 needs some time to settle.
Tasting Notes
Bright medium garnet Color. On the nose, red and black cherries, ripe raspberry, boysenberry and a lick of baking spice. On the palate, Morello cherry, blackberries and raspberries along with a mix of cloves, cardamom and white pepper. Fine tannins and an understated length provided by a delicate acid line.
Winemaker's Notes
2021 was another relatively mild year in terms of temperatures. Yields were back up above average, and quality was good, however, ripening was drawn out but this does give us loads of spice and a full basket of fruit flavours. Our Shiraz showing great spice, elegant tannins and firm acid drive.
Vineyard Notes
Sourced from a selection of blocks across the historic Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard situated in the Grampians region of Victoria, where the combination of Langi’s cool climates, old vines and granite sands produce Shiraz with great intensity, purity and finesse.
