97pts Jeb Dunnuck

The 2019 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse is up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Coming from the Fort Ross-Seaview appellation, its translucent ruby hue is followed by a medium to full-bodied Pinot Noir that's loaded with gorgeous strawberry and black cherry fruits as well as ripe, polished tannins, a layered, deep, concentrated mid-palate, loads of spice and dried flower nuances, and an opulent yet also pure and precise style that's a joy to drink. It will keep for a solid decade.

96pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Coming from the estate vineyard in Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, this barrel sample of the 2019 Pinot Noir Ma Danseuse is due to be bottled in just a few days. Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, it hits the ground running with an impactful nose of Black Forest cake, raspberry coulis and wild blueberries, giving way to an earthy undercurrent of truffles, dusty soil and forest floor plus a touch of stewed rhubarb. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers lovely freshness and soft, rounded tannins supporting the generous earth-tinged berry flavors, finishing with great persistence. 1,150 cases were made. (95-96 points)

94pts Wine Spectator

Sleek, powerful and savory, with fresh acidity to the dried dark currant, black olive and berry flavors that show light toastiness. Forest floor accents midpalate linger on the finish with focused tannins and minerality. Drink now through 2026.

Winemaker Notes

Dark ruby-colored, ‘Ma Danseuse’ exudes an extraordinary perfume of Asian spices, clove and dried herbs along with fresh raspberry and blackberry. Full-bodied with savory layers of flavor reminiscent of leather, earth, graphite and sandalwood, enlivened by notes of violets, rose petal, and strawberry coulis. A silky entry evolves into an explosive midpalate that is seamless throughout with great length, providing a long finish.

The 2019 Peter Michael Winery Ma Danseuse Estate Pinot Noir (ma dans-oos), French for “My Dancer,” an ode by Sir Peter in honor of Lady Maggie Michael, as they met on the dance floor. The vineyard’s coastal soil and climate contribute a dense, yet delicate richness, and add to the wine’s complexity. It benefits from both the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean over the ridges to the west and the mild sunny mountain climate. The soil of the vineyard is a composite of clay, silt, and volcanic gravels, which gives polished tannins, body, and a hint of graphite-mineral. Ma Danseuse is the most feminine of our trio of Pinot Noir vineyards.
