Crème de cassis, lavender, spice, licorice and mint are some of the many notes that run through this promising Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Purlieu and winemaker Julien Fayard.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon comes skipping out of the glass with exuberant notes of freshly crushed black cherries, mulberries and blackcurrant pastilles, plus wafts of chocolate box and aniseed. Full-bodied, taut and grainy-textured, it has lovely freshness and great purity on the finish.

A ripe and juicy red with ripe black and blue fruit, sweet vanilla, licorice and spiced oak. Full-bodied palate with a ripe-fruit core, framed by youthful, chewy tannins. Finishes round and juicy. Bigger style. Already attractive to drink.

Winery Notes

Purlieu means “the edge of the forest” or “an outlying area.” Directly, it is a reference to our home base in the new Coombsville AVA, at the edge of the forest and the entire Napa Valley. Symbolically, “purlieu” refers to our approach to winemaking, to exploring the outskirts and navigating the boundaries of what one may expect of a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. For us, the key to successfully walking that edge lies in maintaining balance: between innovation and tradition, confidence and restraint, depth and refreshment.
