96pts James Suckling
Possibly my favorite of the trio, the 2022 Gigondas Vieilles Vignes (80% Grenache and 20% Syrah) offers a full-bodied, incredibly textured, yet seamless and elegant profile to go with lots of meaty dark fruits, some classic Southern Rhône licorice, roasted herb, and spice box nuances, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's another sensational effort from this estate, which continues to go from strength to strength. A domaine located on the lower plains of Gigondas, Domaine Saint-Damien releases four Gigondas, their Vieilles Vignes, which is a blend of the single vintage, two single vineyards, the Les Souteyrade and La Louisiane, and lastly and most recently, the Clovis Saurel. All the wines are largely Grenache and destemmed, and aside from the Clovis Saurel, which is aged in demi-muids, are brought up in foudre and tank. These are brilliant, layered, textured Gigondas that represent insane values.

Certainly on par with the single parcel releases, the 2022 Gigondas Vieilles Vignes is 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre raised all in larger foudre. It has a gorgeous nose of wild strawberry and raspberry-like fruit intermixed with loads of spice and Provençal goodness. It's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, elegant mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and great finish. It shows the slightly less concentrated style of the vintage yet just shines for its complexity, balance, and length. Drink bottles over the coming 10-12+ years. Drink: 2024-2037.
92pts Vinous
The intricate 2022 Gigondas Vieilles Vignes blooms with alluring strawberry compote, blackberry, black plum and spicy characteristics. Full-bodied and concentrated, the 2022 is a rock-solid rendition of this cuvée built for the long haul.
91pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Offering a deep and youthfully sapid bouquet of dark cherries, violet, spices and herbs, the 2022 Gigondas Classique Vieilles Vignes, a blend of 8% Grenache Noir and 20% Mourvèdre, is medium to full-bodied, enrobing and perfectly balanced, with a juicy texture, good depth at the core and a structured but well-integrated tannic frame. Matured for 12 months in foudres, this classic, beautifully crafted Gigondas finishes long and elegant, with a lingering spicy aftertaste.
Winemaker Notes
An exceptional, high-character Gigondas. Look for an intensely aromatic bouquet and a palate that is both lush and precise, showcasing a harmonious blend of classic Provençal herbs, pepper, and garrigue. The tannins are evident but well-integrated, adding to its charm.
