95pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard was matured for 10 months in 40% new French oak. It has slowly unfurling aromas of wild berries, Christmas spices, potpourri and mossy bark. The medium-bodied palate offers concentrated layers of spicy fruit framed by silky tannins and mouthwatering acidity, and it has a long, dynamic finish. 489 cases were made.
93pts Jeb Dunnuck
From one of the great sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands, the 2021 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard has a bright, juicy, medium-bodied style as well as perfumed red fruits (strawberries, cherries), lots of floral nuances, nicely integrated acidity, and fine tannins. This cuvée was completely destemmed and was brought up in 40% new French oak. I love its purity and elegance.
93pts Wine Enthusiast
Intense aromas of dark cherry, raspberry and vibrant cinnamon pop on the nose of this bottling. The palate combines floral flavors of elderflower and violet with a black plum core, pushing deeply into the finish.
91pts Vinous
The 2021 Pinot Noir Rosella's Vineyard is laced with crushed flowers, sweet red-toned fruit, cedar, pipe tobacco, mint and rose petals. This is a pretty nervy, taut expression of Rosella's, but it works.
Wine Spectator
A forthright style, with a core of ripe plum and blackberry fruit, framed by singed vanilla and scored by light tobacco and toast accents on the finish. Drink now through 2025. 489 cases made.
Winemaker's Notes
A wine that has the signature Rosella’s notes of graceful tannins and racy acidity, this is a Pinot Noir that showcases the windswept northern Santa Lucia Highlands and meticulous viticulture that makes the fruit shine so brightly. The brightness of this wine is incredibly difficult to resist.
With 2021 being a near picture-perfect vintage, the harmony of the fruit and resulting wine was obvious as soon as the fermentations began. This was a great vintage to do as little as possible once the fruit was in the winery – the bright flavors, soft tannins and zesty acidity provided a great balance that we wanted to let shine through. With almost no fingerprints from a winemaking perspective, this wine is a testament to a great site that is always impeccably farmed and showcased through an excellent vintage.
Vineyard Notes
Planted in 1996 by Gary & Rosella Franscioni in the 'sweet-spot' of the Central Santa Lucia Highlands, Rosella's Vineyard sits atop a southeast facing alluvial bench. Arroyo Seco Sandy Loam soils provide excellent drainage, while moderate summer days produce wines with beautifully fresh blue and red fruit notes with supple tannins.
