94pts James Suckling

Lots of blackberry, stone and ink aromas that follow through with blackberry, blueberry, and boysenberry notes. Medium- to full-bodied with plenty of flavor but not overdone. Shows balance and beauty. Drink or hold.

92pts Wine Enthusiast

This mouthwatering and structural Petite Sirah is built to accompany juicy cuts of steak, mushroom risotto or richer pastas. The flavors are bright, mouthwatering and also richly spiced with cinnamon, clove and candied ginger. Notes of fig and chopped dates emerge with further sipping.

Winemaker Notes

Captivates with a fragrant nose of bramble berry fruit, freshly baked blackberry pie, boysenberry, black plum, and black cherry cobbler, with hints of graham cracker crust, lifted lavender, and thyme. Voluptuous, vibrant, and lithe with juicy acidity that accentuates the abundant dark berry fruit. Sinewy, firm tannins lend a viscous texture, while the long and punchy finish leaves a lasting impression. Balanced and beautiful, this Petite Sirah shows restraint and elegance, with subtle oak integration.

Vineyard Notes

Carefully selected fruit from both northern vineyards in Calistoga, and St. Helena, and southern vineyards in Oakville, Oak Knoll, and Coombsville, as well as our own Stags Leap District, are added to intensify and broaden the wine’s profile to include floral, spice and fruit characteristics. Petite Sirah is a varietal that is enhanced by the deliberate diversity of our vineyard sites.

About the Winery

A fashionable country resort in the mid-twentieth century, popular with Hollywood due to its 1892 stone Manor House and historic gardens, legends of bootleggers and gangsters, ghosts and gypsies, Stags' Leap has been home to three major family groups up through the modern revitalization of the winery that began in the 1970s.

Stags Leap Manor, as it was called in the 1920s, was known as one of the prominent country retreats in the Napa Valley at a time when resort and spa business was big. In addition to lodging and dining, amenities included lawn tennis, swimming, horseback riding, children's activities, golf, music, cards, a library, and Napa Valley wines and liquors (prior to and after Prohibition).

An intimate valley within the greater Napa Valley, Stags Leap is a place of natural beauty, storied buildings and gardens, a lively history, and a reputation for elegant wines showing finesse and intensity.
