92pts James Suckling
This is a really crunchy red made from grenache, mataro, carignan and counoise with plenty of bright fruit, with open tannins and a savory and spicy finish. Torbreck calls it a lunchtime red. Agreed. Delicious now.
91pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Cuvee Juveniles is lipstick pink and lusty and fresh, with savory spice and black cherry in profusion. There is kirsch and peppercorns, salted licorice and Satsuma plum and raspberry pip. I tasted this wine almost a year ago, and it has settled and evolved beautifully in that time. In its way, it has clarity and freshness and lovely, grippy tannins. I like it.
90pts Wine Spectator
Stylish, with tangy cherry and berry flavors and notes of matcha, opening up to more spice and toast details. Shows cigar box and dried herbal notes, with a hint of sarsaparilla that lingers. Grenache, Mataro, Carignan and Counoise.
Winemaker Notes
The 2022 summer growing season was mild, with even and cool daily temperatures throughout. Enhanced by good rains provided during the winter and spring of 2021, our vineyards grew wonderful canopies and developed well-formed grape bunches. As a result of this long flavor development cycle in the vineyard, 2022’s signature is wines of high aromatic lift with densely colored tints and exceptional balance.
Winery Notes
Torbreck, founded in 1994 by David Powell, is situated at Marananga on the western ridge of the Barossa. Since that time he has produced some of the world's finest 'Rhone varietal' wines, exclusively from Barossa fruit; this has been acknowledged by the wine press in Europe, America and Australia. The overwhelming majority of his vines are dry-grown, nearly all are 80 - 125 years old and are tended and harvested by hand.
