97pts CWA
This dazzling new 2022 Cabernet gives your palate a friendly hug with rich fruit and loads of melt-in-your-mouth Ghirardelli milk chocolate flavors at its core. Those are melded with silky smooth tannins for a supremely impressive wine experience now through the next decade. When sampling, one member of our panel exclaimed ‘I just LOVE this’! This gem reminds us of opulent favorites trading for $200+ per bottle. Complex flavors include hints of raspberry, plum, red currant, blueberry, and blackberry jam. Thanks to an awe-inspiring texture and integration of flavors, this relative bargain may be enjoyed tonight (decant ½ hour) and merits a 97 rating now through the balance of this decade.
95pts James Suckling
Very structured, with firm tannins and a feeling of tension that supports the ample dark fruit flavors. Dusky, spicy oak aromas with macerated cherries, blackcurrants and red cherries on the palate. Sourced from the eastern side of Oakville. Full-bodied. Drink or hold.
93pts Decanter
Aged for 15 months in French oak, the 2022 TOR Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of fruit from Double H Ranch Vineyard—a 1.2-hectare site directly below Dalla Valle—and Renteria 360 off Skellenger Lane. This vintage showcases classic Oakville scrub brush aromas with a more medium-bodied expression than in previous years, reflecting the warm growing season. The firm yet inviting tannins bring a gentle elegance, while the finish unfolds with cola nut, sassafras, and a kiss of spearmint. Good grip and length make for a well-structured, balanced wine. Drinking Window: 2025-2035.
92pts Jeb Dunnuck
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is terrific, and it's an appellation release in 2022 that's well worth your time and money. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Cabernet Franc, it delivers perfumed, ripe blue fruits, violets, sappy herbs, and a touch of leather in its medium to full-bodied, forward, juicy, front end-loaded style. It's going to keep for 8-10 years, but there's no need to hold off. Drink: 2025-2035.
91pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Already bottled at the time I tasted it in February, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is a blend of two sites this year. Mixed red and black cherries are accented by hints of cedar and mint on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is slightly open-knit. Approachable and easy-to-drink, it's a fine introduction to the Tor lineup. Drink: 2024-2035.
Winemaker Notes
Our Oakville Cabernet is a perfect example of why Oakville is the premiere appellation for Cabernet in the Napa Valley. This wine checks all the Cabernet boxes, with plentiful fruit, a touch of forest floor, and a hint of graphite. The fruit is a balance of red, black and blue, with blackberry, black cherry, blueberry compote and an iron/sanguine minerality. Baking spices of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg add an extra dusting of complexity. A great expression of this renowned appellation.
