94pts James Suckling
Attractive aromas of crabapples and cotton candy with some minerals and strawberries follow through to a medium to full body, a creamy texture with integrated bubbles and a long, beautiful finish that shows just the right amount of fruit intensity. Dosage 6g/L. Disgorged in April 2022. Drink now.
Winemaker Notes
The color is salmon pink, clear and brilliant. On the nose and on the palate: small red fruits such as raspberry, Plougastel strawberry or Mara des bois followed by a fine hint of Burlat cherry to finish with hints of citrus fruits such as Menton lemon or qumkuat. The finish outlines saline and suave notes all in length.
Winery Notes
Present for generations among the most prestigious appellations on the Côte d’Or, the Leflaive family is renowned for its exemplary work. This skill in terms of excellence has been applied to plot selection in the Champagne region. Based on single-varietal approach can result in some wonderful interpretations, similar to the grand cru wines of the Côte de Beaune. ORIGIN echoes the wine house’s state of mind. Each cuvée has its own characteristics. While the letters express the terroir, the numbers indicate the year of the base and dosage. This modern approach underlines the assertiveness of a new player in the champagne sector – Valentin Leflaive – which is all about transparency. Avize Grand Cru combine complexity and amplitude. The vines are located in the heart of Côte des Blancs terroir.
