95pts Vinous
The 2023 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a more expressive bouquet than the Les Preuses at the moment: crushed stone intermingles with hazelnut, hints of chalk and glimpses of yellow plum and Vervane. It coheres beautifully in the glass. The palate is more involving than the Les Preuses, perhaps edgier. A complex and very saline finish gets the saliva flowing. It seems to revel in being Les Clos and has one-up on Les Preuses at this prenatal juncture.
95pts Burghound
A cool and restrained nose is comprised by the essence of wet stone, white flower, citrus confit, oyster shell and an unusual hint of resin. The sleek and almost painfully intense larger-bodied yet still refined flavors are akin to rolling a small pebble around the mouth, all wrapped in a hugely long, balanced and youthfully austere finale. Like the Preuses, this is a wine that should effortlessly reward a decade plus of keeping. Moreover, it is one of the wines of the 2023 vintage.
95pts Jasper Morris
A little more yellow in the colour. Equal quality, less exuberance. On the palate this is very complete, a slight spicy biscuit to finish, not as flamboyant. But solid and fine. Not quite as much excitement at the finish as Les Preuses, but more spices.
Tasting Notes
Less mineral on the nose, but riper. Candied juicy fruit, thick in texture with some mandarin orange character that i associate more with the 2008’s. Some pink grapefruit, too. Super refreshing, the finish is like a glass of sweetened lemonade with stones
Winery Notes
Domaine Vincent Dauvissat is arguably the finest Domaine in Chablis. Established in the 1970s by Robert Dauvissat, the Domaine has passed down from father to son for three generations. Robert’s son René is to thank for establishing the reputation of the Domaine. Vincent began working with his father, René, in the 1970s and today runs the Domaine. A loyal following among France’s most esteemed restaurateurs sharply limits the availability of Dauvissat wines for export. Despite limited quantities, the wines have attracted the praise and attention of critics worldwide.
