96pts James Suckling

Plenty of red fruit character here, plus notes of wet earth, blood orange and violets. Excellent concentration for 2022 with beautifully integrated fine tannins, the fresh acidity helping to drive the long, delicately earthy finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Made from vines exclusively on red clay, this tends to be a powerhouse at de Vogüé. So, I was surprised when it was served before Amoureuses, even if geographically it makes sense for Amoureuses to be followed directly by Musigny. Regardless, there was a notable, new level of finesse here in the hands of Jean Lupatelli. Every aspect of the wine felt as intense as in prior vintages, simply less forced and more immediately elegant. Black cherries and floral flourishes finish with savory saline notes.

The 2021 Bonnes-Mares from Domaine Comte de Vogüé shows a lovely influence from its whole clusters, taking the wine to another level of youthful complexity on both the nose and palate. The nose delivers scents of plums, red and black cherries, gamebird, woodsmoke, a gorgeous base of dark soil tones, sweet stem tones and cedary oak. The domaine’s fine parcel of Bonnes-Mares lies in the northeastern corner of the vineyard, which is entirely on terres rouges soils and this unique expression of Bonnes-Mares terroir really shines through in 2021. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full-bodied, with again, truly superb soil signature, ripe, buried tannins and a long, poised and complex finish of impeccable balance. Fine, fine juice. 2035-2100.

50% whole bunch. A medium deep purple with a lovely perfume, some darker fruit, actually quite sensual. A middling weight of deep sensual fruit then a much livelier finish, some citrus notes, with a finish which is entirely in red fruit. Very persistent indeed. The de Vogüé holding is on the red Bonnes Mares soil with some depth, but the wine is lively and with a white pepper finish. Drink from 2028-2035.

94pts Decanter

This wine features spicy, intense blackberry and earth aromas, with an undercurrent of savoury notes and a smoky hint of ground coffee. This is more massive than the rest of the cellar. It remains a compellingly attractive wine, but seems more ‘Morey’ than ‘Chambolle’ in character, despite the fact that the domaine’s 2.7 hectares are clustered at the base of the slope at the southern tip of the appellation. After a careful sorting, the grapes were fermented with 50% whole clusters and the wine is currently ageing in cask.

94pts Vinous

The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, their only vineyard on the north side of Chambolle, includes around 50% whole bunches this year. The stems are discretely enmeshed, present, but allow the fruit and terroir to speak. I admire the freshness and joie-de-vivre here. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled tannins, vivid black cherry fruit laced with orange zest/blood orange towards its energetic finish. Bon vin.

94pts Burghound

Note: from a 2.67 ha parcel situated entirely in terres rouges soil in the far southern portion of the vineyard A much more deeply pitched and more floral-suffused nose speaks mostly of blue berries, anise and a subtle touch of earth. I very much like the seductive mid-palate texture of the vibrant medium weight flavors that display excellent depth and persistence on the youthfully austere bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. This is perhaps on the lighter side in the context of what is typical for Bonnes Mares, but it possess excellent flavor authority and fine length.

93pts Wine Advocate

Aromas of sweet berries, cherries, vine smoke, petals and forest floor preface the 2021 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy palate that's quite muscular and layered in the context of the vintage, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a saline finish.

Winery Notes

Many domaines in Burgundy can trace their roots back over 100 years, but only a handful can claim more than 200 years, to 1450 and the Chambolle vines of one Jean Moisson. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation--Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogue.
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue is inextricably linked to the Grand Cru vineyard of Musigny, considered by many the pinnacle of Pinot Noir. Until 1936 the vineyard was conveniently split into just two climates--a narrow east-west track splitting the climate of Le Musigny from the more southerly and slightly smaller Les Petits-Musigny. The domaine ranks among the very best Burgundy houses.
