92 James Suckling

Blueberry, plums and citrus rind aromas, follow through to a full body, with juicy tannins and a tangy finish. Round and delicious.

92pts Wine Enthusiast

A delicious wine, so fruity. It does have the proper tannins but it is a wine that is already approachable with its sweet fruits-a pleasure to taste. However, for the future, watch those tannins.

92pts Wine Spectator

This is tight and precise, with lots of cut from start to finish, as chiseled graphite and iron notes support the dark currant, mulled fig and crushed blackberry fruit. Long and toasty, but well-integrated on the lilac-tinged finish.

91pts Vinous

The 2009 Les Ormes de Pez has a strange nose at first, a little distant and missing the same fruit intensity as its peers. There is a slight dustiness here that translates over the palate. Good fruit concentration and grip, just a touch of greenness around the edges with a welcome dash of spice towards the finish. Thoroughly enjoyable if just missing some finesse.

90pts Decanter

One of the value picks in this tasting, but not quite as enjoyable as I was hoping it was going to be. It's still extremely pleasurable though, with juice running right though the focussed, defined palate. It's starting to soften and is ready to begin drinking.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 Ormes de Pez gives up meaty notes of chargrill and rosemary-roasted lamb over a core of warm cassis and baked plums plus a waft of fried herbs. Medium-bodied, it has a firm, chewy frame and bold freshness supporting the savory layers, finishing with an herbal lift.

Int'l Wine Cellar

Bright ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice and mint are lifted by a floral note. Supple, dry and vinous, showing a classic Saint-Estephe coolness and finesse. Not at all sweet but offers good penetration to its suave dark fruit flavors. The building tannins coat the front teeth. Nicely done.

Winemaker's Notes

Château Les Ormes de Pez is a harmonious, spicy and distinctive wine that reveals the authenticity of its terroir in the Saint-Estephe appellation. It will charm you with its opulence, elegance and well-rounded structure. The palate offers robust tannins whilst retaining a smooth, fleshy side.
