The 2023 Volnay Clos de la Rougeotte 1er Cru has a linear, correct bouquet with darker fruit than the 2022 last year. It's a little introverted compared to its peers. The palate is ripe and forward with quite sturdy tannins. It's a little Pommard in style, but it just cuts away too fast on the finish.

About the Wine

Nestled within the village, this vineyard lies ensconced by high stone walls that shield it from the elements. Aptly named, it’s the first vine to be harvested, as it takes on the autumn colors before the others. The marl-rich terroir, abundant in clay, yields a delicate and harmonious wine that only improves with age. Keeps well.

Volnay’s 100% pinot noir wines always have fine tannins, making them supple with good ageing potential. They go well with roasts, white meats, poultry and are a marvel with cheeses.
