Aurum takes its name from the Latin word meaning gold, as it is grown among the rocky soils of the sunny southern part of Burgundy.

History of the Winery

Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot in Beaune, building on vineyards first acquired by his family after arriving from Belgium in 1794. The house expanded steadily under his son Louis Baptiste Jadot, who developed export markets and reinvested in prestigious Côte d’Or vineyards, and later under Louis Auguste Jadot, who grew the brand internationally, especially in the United States. In 1962, André Gagey became managing director and helped shape Jadot into a leading owner-producer, later bringing in renowned winemaker Jacques Lardière in 1970. The company entered a new era in 1985 when it was purchased by Kobrand Corporation, and in 1991 André’s son, Pierre-Henry Gagey, became president, continuing the legacy of quality and global influence in Burgundy.

Maison Louis Jadot’s principles of vinification balance tradition and technology, and focus on the purest expression of each wine’s terroir, taking the lightest possible hand in winemaking. Louis Jadot and Château des Jacques are attributed with revolutionizing the winemaking of Beaujolais. Jadot has invested in modern wineries dedicated to Beaujolais and Mâconnais wines only, and painstakingly vinifies all its wines rather than buying wines ready-made.For its Beaujolais and Mâconnais wines, Jadot practices a further, though expensive, practice called réplis, in which wines of a higher appellation are incorporated into a wine bearing the appellation below them. Thus, for example, Jadot’s Beaujolais-Villages will customarily contain a percentage of wines from Beaujolais crus.
