92pts Wine Spectator
Offers a sappy richness, with concentrated flavors of blackberry coulis and plum sauce well-seasoned with crushed rosemary and lavender, smoked paprika, fennel seed and toasty smoke aromatics. This is rich but sleek and finely knit, integrating sculpted, fine-grained tannins and bright, blood orange–infused acidity. Spiced finish. Drink now through 2037.
Tasting Notes
Opaque red-black in color with a scarlet rim. Initially closed on the nose, the wine opens to an amalgam of minerals and unctuous super-ripe berries. Deep, rich and ripe on the palate, where black fruits (cherries, plums) give way to hints of licorice, molasses and a hint of cinnamon. Solid tannins and focused acidity with a long finish.
Goes well with game, beef, pasta, rice and cheeses.
Winemaker Notes
'Alto Moncayo' is the flagship of the winery. It is also another single-grape variety of Garnacha, from vines between 40 and 70 years old, aged in new barrels for 20 months. It has a remarkable complex nose, with balsamic aromas, redolent of black fruit, roasted notes and a very good structure in the mouth.
