95pts Jeb Dunnuck

A ripe golden hue, the 2021 Chardonnay Far Coast Vineyard offers more broadness right away with its perfume of jasmine, ripe tropical fruit, toasted spice, and apricot. Full-bodied, with a soft, viscous texture and notes of honeyed citrus and ripe salted pineapple, it’s long on the finish, with a sunny, opulent feel. It’s approachable now or over the next 6-8 years.

94pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Barrel fermented and matured for 14 months in 25% new French oak, the 2021 Chardonnay Far Coast Vineyard has dynamic scents of apricot, preserved lemon and ginger, plus undertones of almonds and honey. The light-bodied palate features generous layers of ripe citrus fruit enlivened by shimmery acidity. A touch of phenolic grip balances its tangy freshness and lengthens its finish.

94pts Wine Enthusiast

This wine comes from an extremely coastal site at higher elevation, and it shows. Stony minerals, crisp apple and tropical citrus dominate the nose and palate with a hint of lively saltiness. The texture should round out nicely over the next year or so, making it even more approachable.

Winery Notes

Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast.
Making delicious wines of high personality is directly related to the difficult locations of the Hartford family's vineyard sources, the limited production of their bottlings and the varietals they use. "Character through adversity" is an expression that the Hartford family believes to apply to both people and grapevines, and they feel that surviving adversity builds character, and personality, in both.
