The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Impassable Mountain is another luxurious wine with depth that is uncommon for Sonoma, offering a perfume of cassis, fresh leather, licorice, and cedar. Full-bodied without weight, it has fine, ripe tannins, and warming structure, with ripe fruit of blackberry, turned earth, and sage unfolding on the finish. Hold this 3-4 years and drink over the following 20 or more years. For more Napa-centric collectors, these wines from just the other side of the Mayacamas should certainly be sought out. Aromas of sweet black and red fruit interlaced with aromatic herbs and spices invite you to taste a wine that unfolds gradually in layers of flavor: black and red cassis, pomegranate and black raspberry, nutmeg and clove, vanilla and molasses, finishing with black tea and cafe au lait. Despite its richness, it is finely balanced with subtle textured, minerality and fine-grained tannin. Approachable but bold in youth, it will evolve well-kept for decades.
