Tasting Notes
Dark fruit with dried black berries, mixed spices, with plenty of density and body. It is approachable but serious. Bold and memorable.
Our Winemaking Team recommends pairing with Smoked Sausage with Creamy Polenta, Gorgonzola Stuffed Dates wrapped in Bacon, and Caramelized Onion and Feta Tart.
About the Wine
An expressive blend dominated by Petite Sirah–a key element in iconic SALDO Zinfandel. Rounded out by hints of Syrah and Grenache from the Central and North Coasts, this expressive wine bursts with intense blackberry, blueberry, and cherry. After fermentation on skins, the wine spends 12 months in French, American, and Hungarian barrels to gain full body and unforgettable notes of baking spice.
Our name, SALDO, comes from the Italian word for “I join or I weld” and was chosen to reflect our winemaking approach to welding together our wines from grapes from the best vineyards across the world.
SALDO winemakers are meticulous in their craft, joining and welding together wines that aim to stay off the beaten track and open people’s minds to what fine wine can really be.
Winery Notes
At SALDO we look to explore the unknown, reconsider the overlooked, and uncover what’s next in the world of wine. Our winemaking team is unafraid to explore uncharted territory and challenge preconceived notions of luxury to bring you high quality wines you didn’t see coming.
We are known for our flagship Zinfandel, a wine that launched almost 20 years ago and helped reinvigorate an overlooked California varietal. Since then, we have launched a Red Blend, Chenin Blanc and Shiraz, staying off the beaten track of the more common varietals and instead bringing more unexpected offerings to help uncover what’s next.
At SALDO, the only thing better than creating our unexpected wines is sharing them with other curious and exploratory wine drinkers and we cannot wait to have you apart of our journey.
Saldo is one of the brands created under The Prisoner Wine Company portfolio. The Prisoner brand was originally founded in Napa Valley in 2000 by Dave Phinney and became known for bold, unconventional blends; after Phinney sold the brand, it continued to expand under new ownership. Saldo, launched later within the same company, focuses specifically on rich, ripe, California-grown Zinfandel-driven wines, sharing the Prisoner’s stylistic DNA of intensity and approachability while operating as a distinct label within the broader Prisoner Wine Company family.
