92pts Wine Spectator
A bold red in a modern style, offering fine-grained, dense tannins swathed in glossy blackberry and black currant fruit, with fragrant accents of toast, dried sage, melted licorice, smoke and cocoa powder. Long and generous on the palate but well-structured and lively throughout. Best from 2026 through 2031. 3,000 cases made, 1,800 cases imported.
Tasting Notes
Opaque red-black in color with a scarlet rim. Initially closed on the nose, the wine opens to an amalgam of minerals and unctuous super-ripe berries. Deep, rich and ripe on the palate, where black fruits (cherries, plums) give way to hints of licorice, molasses and a hint of cinnamon. Solid tannins and focused acidity with a long finish.
Goes well with game, beef, pasta, rice and cheeses.
Winemaker Notes
'Alto Moncayo' is the flagship of the winery. It is also another single-grape variety of Garnacha, from vines between 40 and 70 years old, aged in new barrels for 20 months. It has a remarkable complex nose, with balsamic aromas, redolent of black fruit, roasted notes and a very good structure in the mouth.
