100pts Jeb Dunnuck

A blend of 87% Mourvèdre and 13% Syrah vinified with 70% whole clusters and aged 21 months in 50% new French oak, the 2023 Andremily Mourvedre is a massive wine that does everything right. Ripe, spicy red and black fruits, ground pepper, camphor, and graphite all define the nose, and on the palate, it's rich and full-bodied, with a monster of a mid-palate, velvety, polished tannins, flawless balance, and a great, great finish. Drink 2026-2053.

99pts The Wine Palate

The 2023 Mourvèdre is composed of 87% Mourvèdre with 13% Syrah, with 70% whole cluster used. Deep garnet-purple colored, it slowly emerges from the glass with opulent notes of blackberries, boysenberry preserves, and violets, plus hints of crushed rocks, tar, black olives, and fragrant earth. The full-bodied palate is so incredibly elegant and perfumed with fine-grained tannins and great tension, finishing very long and fragrant. Another Mourvèdre triumph for Andremily!

96pts Vinous

The 2023 Mourvèdre is wild, feral and undeniably beguiling in its intoxicating aromatic profile of turned earth, game, truffle, wild herbs and ripe red berry fruit. It’s another wine that deftly displays the house style of big, concentrated flavors in a deceptively well-proportioned frame. It’s also totally singular, and quite unlike any other Mourvèdre I've ever tasted from California. A citrusy, polished finish leaves a long echo. This is a fabulous effort from Jim Binns — like a house calling card.

Winemaker Notes

Blend: 87% Mourvèdre, 13% Syrah
Vintage production: 900 cases

There is nothing in the world that can compare with the Andremily Mourvèdre. As Lisa Perrotti-Brown says: “I think it is safe to say that with the possible exception of Beaucastel’s Hommage a Jacques Perrin, there is no one in the world producing greater Mourvedre than Jim.”

The vineyard sources are Alta Mesa (Santa Barbara County) for the Mouvèdre, and Slide Hill – Andremily’s new Estate Vineyard in Edna Valley – for the Syrah.

In 2023, the fruit was 30% destemmed and aged 21 months in 50% new French oak barrels and demi-muids.
