91pts Wine Enthusiast

From a vineyard at one of the high points of the northern Médoc, this wine is smoothly accessible. Ripe black-currant fruits and smoky tannins give balance and juicy freshness. The wine will age, so wait to drink until 2024.

2019 Château La Cardonne MÉDOC — Deep ruby-purple color; gentle grapey aromas rise from the glass with excellent depth and a pleasing touch of Bordeaux earthiness; medium bodied, sturdy, and well-composed on the palate; ripe blackberry flavors mingle with a measured touch of oak in the satisfying finish. Château La Cardonne has long struck me as one of the Médoc’s top values, delivering honest Bordeaux character without demanding a grand occasion. For a solid mid-week Bordelais supper, I would serve this with pan-seared bavette steak, shallots slowly softened in red wine, crisp pommes sautées, and a simple green salad with Dijon vinaigrette—unfussy, deeply satisfying, and just the sort of meal that makes an ordinary Wednesday evening feel like Bordeaux. (Tasted: August 18, 2026, San Francisco, CA)

Winemaker Notes

Deep garnet red, with purple highlights. The bouquet mingles black fruits (blueberry, blackberry), spices and perfectly integrated wood. The palate is rich, round and fresh. Impressive and yet fine tannins, very promising. A long finish with vanilla aroma.
