88pts Vinous
The 2022 Savennières Clos de la Marche doesn't quite hit the richness or concentration of the 2021. It is round, supple and fluid, with firm acidity and phenolic grip that make for an athletic finish. There’s modest fruit intensity and a rather short finish dominated by firmness.
Winemaker Notes
Located in the Savennières appellation, on the right bank of the Loire, Domaine du Petit Métris has an exceptional terroir characterised by schistose and volcanic soils. This appellation is renowned for producing some of the best dry white wines in France.
Chenin blanc is the exclusive grape variety of the Savennières appellation, known for its ability to produce dry, mineral and complex wines. It can also age beautifully, developing richer aromas and flavours over time.
Domaine du Petit Métris practises organic viticulture (2022 is the first certified vintage), paying particular attention to the health of the soil and vines. This includes techniques such as ploughing the soil, reducing the use of chemicals and promoting biodiversity. The
Clos de la Marche parcel was planted just over 30 years ago. The grapes are harvested by hand in several passes, with the aim of achieving good ripeness. The wine undergoes a long, controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks and foudres, followed by barrel ageing.
