Summer of 2018 saw 50% less rainfall on average, fortunately winter and spring received plenty of rain to fill the water tables from which our older vines could get what they needed. As a side note, Burgundy cannot -by law irrigate its vineyards. This allows the roots of the vines to reach deeper into the earth to get their nutrients.
We started harvest very early on Sept 3rd. We first brought in our Chardonnays from the village and grand cru appellations so they would retain their natural acidity. The end results of these climatic conditions and the great care we took during the picking produced bright Chardonnays at the Domain with expressive elements of fruits, tension, freshness and minerality.
In its youth this superb grand cru white shows a light golden color, as it ages its robe becomes more amber.
Aromas of linden flower, apple and fresh almond turn cooked apple and grilled toast as the wine will age.
Flavors of exotic fruits, pineapple, mango and lychees transform themselves with time into buttered notes and truffles.
It has long, very long staying power on the palate.
Enjoy it with fish, lobster, and scallops, white meat or just by itself with some hard cheeses and almonds.
If you like a wine with a big structure you can drink it in the next 3 to 5 years. If you prefer more complexity and refinement wait a good 10 years before opening your bottle.
