The dazzling 2022 Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from near equal parts McQueen and LeFore vineyards. It was stored in roughly 70% new French oak barrels prior to bottling and comes off bold on the nose with rocky soils, violets, tar and sweet pipe tobacco aromatics that all meld in the glass. The palate is sinfully good in terms of weight, viscosity and concentration, with great herbal, chocolate, Arabica bean and green herbal accents. A complete wine that is truly one of the best Doublebacks that I have tasted since this winery’s inception, enjoy this heavyhitter now and over the next twenty years to come.95pts Vinous
Hailing almost half and half from our two estate sites, McQueen and LeFore, the 2022 Doubleback vintage was one to remember. I have always felt like sometimes you need to flirt with destruction in the pursuit of perfection. A cooler vintage, we finished picking after the first full week in November - the latest in my career but one that I am happy about. Our team crushed it - pun intended. Wet stone, charcoal, eucalyptus - balanced out by gobs of fresh plums, red rope licorice at a baseball game, and beautiful wafts of vanilla. A constantly changing, complex, and sexy nose. Aged in 7% concrete, 7% 2,000L ovals, and 68% new French oak. A soft entrance leads to building tannin that is ultra rich, glycerol, and has a super long, lush finish with hints of French oak and fine grains. Decant now and drink through 2049.

Like the producer's Merlot, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon shows great winemaking and a refined style, with beautifully built layers of medium-bodied red fruit, grippy tannin, and a twist of leafy dried herb. It continues to grip for a while, the structure impressively built for considerable aging a solid 15-20 years.
