This is beautifully curated, in a big and rich style. It’s full-bodied with round and creamy tannins that caress your palate. Lots of
flavor and a creamy texture. It’s a bit of a throwback, but it’s hard to resist. Drink or hold.

This 2020 Bishop Shiraz is a saturating and pure example of Barossa Shiraz, from a warm, compacted and low-yielding vintage.
The wine in the glass is the very essence of Barossa, with red, earthy tannins, spicy/toasty oak and a fruit profile that spans red,
purple and black. Really well done. Delicious. Drink Date 2022 – 2032.

Shiraz sourced from 35-to 120-year old vines in the Ebenezer subregion; matured for 16 months in a mix of 405 new oak and 605
second and third-use hogsheads, mostly French. Purple red in the glass with notes of macerated blackberry and plum fruits,
crème de cassis, baking spices, dark chocolate, blackberry cream, earth and violets. Ripe and plush with melt-in-the-mouth
tannins, this is very much the quintessential northern Barossa shiraz and a very sharp price.

WInery Notes:

Glaetzer Bishop is a true expression of Barossa Shiraz that is elegantly structured
with a long finish.

Variety:
100% Shiraz

Vineyards:Exceptional old vine fruit was sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub district at the
northern tip of the Barossa Valley. Vine age 35—120 years old. Yield 3 tonnes per
hectare.

Vintage Conditions:

The 2020 vintage offered us so much in quality, but so little in quantity. The dry
year leading up to vintage, 2019 being the driest year on record, was always going
to lead to a reduced crop. This was amplified by frost in October affecting
flowering. Smaller bunches with smaller berries were then offered the reprieve of
a cooler January and February in contrast to the previous year. The result is very
low yields, but wonderful quality and character. Shiraz stands out as the quality
leader for the vintage, offering extraordinary colour and flavour.

Vinification:

Fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters. Extended maceration was
employed to enable good tannin development so the wine is soft and
approachable early. Matured for 16 months in a mix of 40% new oak and 60% 2—
3 year old oak hogshead barrels (90% French / 10% American).

Tasting Notes

Colour: Vibrant dark red with purple hues.
Aroma: Subtle yet expressive, black cherries, dried spice and licorice.
Palate: This vintage of Bishop is amazingly expressive and approachable for a wine
of such depth. It is both bright and complex and with convincingly silky texture.
Flavours of dark cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate and multiple dried spices are
supported by restrained tannin. Look for the classic calling card of palate length
and persistence.
Peak Drinking: Great drinking now but this wine will also benefit from up to 10 -
15 years of careful cellaring.
