This blends the main variety with 16% Malbec and smaller pinches of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The resulting wine is robust and well built, softly structured and punctuated in flavors of bold red cherry and plum. Rich, it shows some restraint and ultimately balance, the fruit integrated with oak and tannin.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Davies is another super-distinctive wine from Davies. Layers of dense, dark fruit make a strong opening statement. Rich, voluptuous and hedonistic, the 2015 is a decidedly bold wine, but there is also better balance than in the Winfield. At times, the alcohol is a bit pronounced. Otherwise, this is an attractive Cabernet from Davies.

A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec and 8% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon JD has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of cassis, blueberry preserves and spice cake with hints of dried Mediterranean herbs, pencil lead and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers good intensity and plenty of chew, finishing on an earthy note.

The Davies family, proprietors of Schramsberg and Davies Vineyards in Napa Valley, presents its fifteenth vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon crafted from the historic Diamond Mountain vineyards they purchased in 1965. The estate vineyards were replanted to Bordeaux varietals beginning in 1994, and the J. Davies Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was first released in 2004 (2001 vintage).

J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon is the creation of the second generation of the Davies family, the product of an intimate knowledge of a place and of a passion to create a delicious red wine. The wine is named in honor of patriarch Jack L. Davies, who along with his wife, Jamie, revived the Schramsberg property and established the preeminent American sparkling wine house over 50 years ago.
