96pts Wine Spectator
A plush, fruit-filled and aromatic red, this exudes crystalline black cherry, blackberry, boysenberry, floral, spice and mineral flavors. Firms up yet remains balanced, vibrant and long while playing out on the multidimensional finish. Hits all the right notes for the vintage. Best from 2029 through 2047.
96pts Jasper Morris
For the first time the Boudots is half young vines and half old, so needs to be picked earlier than in the past. A bright mid purple, there is an impressive intensity to the fruit, half red berries, half darker raspberry, half Nuits and half Vosne. This is not too bulky, too massive, but entirely harmonious with a long fine and fresh finish. Drink from 2032-2040.
95pts Decanter
A stone's throw from Malconsorts, which borders to the south, Grivot's Nuits Boudots is always a definite step up in this cellar, with more depth and density on the palate and concentrated plummy fruit with notes of spice and smoke that linger through the impressively long finish. The grapes from Grivot's 0.85-hectare holding are carefully destemmed and fermented at a reasonably cool temperature with minimal extraction to maintain the silkiness of the fruit: 'I have always worked the wines in verticality,' according to Etienne Grivot.
95pts Tim Atkin
Smoky and sultry on the nose, blackberry compote and cassis douse the palate with moreish, ripe fruit sensations. Smooth and cuddly on the palate, this has fuzzy tannins and subtle but effective acidity. You really see the finesse of neighboring Vosne creeping in here.
Winery Notes
Domaine Jean Grivot is among the great names in Burgundian wine. Étienne Grivot and his wife Marielle (Patrick Bize's sister) took over from Étienne’s father Jean Grivot in 1987. The Grivot family believes in generational change and in 2017, Étienne and Marielle’s daughter, Mathilde, took over for her parents. Mathilde brings a fresh approach while maintaining the longtime traditions of the Grivot family.
The recently renovated winery and cellar is in Vosne-Romanée where most of the Grivot vineyards are located. The domaine has been assembled over several generations to its current size of 15.5 hectares and includes holdings in three grand crus: Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux, and Richebourg. Mathilde believes in getting quality first thanks to meticulous vineyard work throughout the year. The result of this hard work is healthy, ripe (both phenolic and sugar levels) and depth of concentration and flavor of the fruit. Today, the vineyards are densely planted and farmed organically “sans certification,” while the aim in the cellar is for balance and clear expression of terroir.
