93pts Decanter

On opening, this wine is quite shy, and it takes a few minutes in the glass for it to begin showing itself. The 2023 Reserve from Lange is a barrel selection from several top sites the Langes work with. Winemaker Jesse Lange chooses the Reserve barrels for final blending. Eventually, delicate violets and notes of freshly found truffle spill forth. The palate is opulently ripe, retaining freshness as fresh blackberries, cherries, and red plums. It ends where sweet red fruits blend with fresh turned earth. —Clive Pursehouse

94pts International Wine Report

The 2023 Lange Estate Winery Reserve Pinot Noir is a beautifully expressive wine. The nose is vibrant and refined, revealing aromas of wild strawberries, mountain blueberries, crushed rose petals, steeped hibiscus, and damp forest floor, accented by hints of white pepper and dried thyme. On the palate, this Pinot Noir unfolds with a graceful texture, balancing its supple tannins with bright acidity. Layers of red currant, black raspberry, and blood orange zest mingle with undertones of earthy minerality and a delicate saline edge. The wine’s seamless structure and refined tension create a compelling drinking experience, finishing with elegance and length. 2025–2035. —Jeremy Young

92pts James Suckling

Attractive aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, dried orange peel, rose hips and a hint of beeswax. Medium-bodied and vivid on the palate, with a backbone of a fresh, tangy acidity, finishing firm and chalky. Focused and bright. Drink now or hold. Screw cap.

93pts Wine Enthusiast

There is nothing reserved about this Pinot Noir. Its potent Bing cherry and ripe boysenberry aromas envelop your head, while notes of fresh-tilled earth and black pepper dance on the perimeter. Dark fruit flavors then coat the palate, joined by dollops of bittersweet dark chocolate and black tea. The wine's acidity is surprisingly brisk, its tannins firm, but not grippy. — Michael Alberty

Winemaker Notes

The 2023 Reserve opens with fresh strawberry, black pepper, and huckleberry, layered with summer blackberries, plum, subtle dusty earth, and cherries. Bright fruit is carried by fine mineral undertones and elegant, sueded tannins that extend through a long, polished finish.

By blending barrels from multiple vineyards, father and son winemaking duo, Don and Jesse Lange, have translated the vintage into a single cuvée while showcasing all the versatility and range pinot noir is capable of expressing. A hallmark of this series is the smoothly honed tannins that lend shape to a wine with fantastic richness, power, and nuance.
