The 2022 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is generous and inviting right out of the gate. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice, chocolate and dried herbs open first in a mid-weight, juicy Barolo that is all charm. Floral notes lift the sensual finish. This soft, engaging Barolo will be easy to drink on release.

Winemaker Notes

This 2022 Paolo Scavino Bricco Ambrogio expresses Roddi’s distinctive cool‑climate Nebbiolo character through lifted floral aromatics, precise acidity, and a lighter, more perfumed structure than typical Barolos.

The vineyard occupies 275 meters on marl and limestone soils with a south‑southeast aspect. Steep daily temperature drops combined with open valley airflow preserve freshness, while Enrico Scavino’s careful management of this nearly monopole site ensures consistent ripening windows. Fruit is hand‑picked in mid‑October once sugar‑acid balance reaches its peak.

After harvest, the grapes undergo ten to twelve days of submerged‑cap maceration before initiating native fermentations. The wine ages across a blended program of neutral French oak barrels, large wooden botti, and temperature‑stabilized stainless steel tanks, concluding with extended bottle rest that integrates structure without masking varietal purity.

Aromatic complexity centers on iris, dog rose, and wild strawberry layered with forest floor and menthol. On the palate, succulent marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, and a bright blood orange thread ride above fine, polished tannins finished by a crisp, linear acidity.

The wine’s balanced weight and savory depth complement slow‑braised red meats, hearty game preparations, truffle‑enhanced mushroom dishes, and mature hard cheeses such as Parmigiano‑Reggiano or aged Pecorino.

Enrico Scavino together with the daughters Enrica and Elisa, fourth generation, run the family Estate. He started to work full time in the winery in 1951 when he was 10 years old. A young winemaker who inherited the passion and devotion for the land he belongs to. Through over 60 years of experience his focus has been to invest on important cru of Nebbiolo to show the uniqueness of each terroir.

Their work is inspired by the love and respect they have for their territory and they pursue purity of expression, complexity and elegance for their wines from the three local grapes Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo.
